Pg. 29 — ANOTHER’S GLOW by Joshua St. Claire

By the moon, the glow of another moon
Lures me through the agaves to the dunes.
Seized with an overwhelming urge to know
The strange light’s source, I am compelled to go
To the dune’s peak. Suddenly a cocoon

Of light binds me and pulls me from the dune.
Too late, I realize, that was no moon.
Swallowed by the sky, soon I will know
The glow of another.

Legion lines of light surround me, crooning
Songs whose words are strange. Its rhythms first attune
me to visions of peace. Then the flow
Of images turns dark: atomic fires glow,
Earth destroyed. The warning left with me on the dune:
Remember the glow of another.
