In July 1995, Tom announced SciFaiku with his concise treatise on the subject, The SciFaiku Manifesto. He is also the co-author of Usability for the Web: Designing Websites That Work and has taught grad courses in UI design at both the University of Michigan and the Academy of Art University. Tom has done research in educational software, speech interfaces, groupware, and user interface toolkits at Apple Computer, Toshiba, and Bellcore, and has extensive experience with web accessibility in a start-up called RetroAccess. Tom started 2 companies, led UX for search and advertising at A9.com (Amazon), led the UX Innovation lab at Samsung, and was head of UX at BroadSoft, now part of Cisco.
