18. Poetry by Ant Mac

Arrival

Across the galaxy
something ejected
picked up
lost
then undetected
a trail blazed
becomes dissected
eyes towards the skies
directed

orbit and trajectory
debates rejected
the truth revealed
and blame deflected
force the task
commander elected
the brightest brains
perplexed and dejected

it seems the thread
has lost directive
approximate dates
and times accepted
predicted impact
wider than expected
defences primed
seem ineffective

no space on earth
to be protected
reporters cheer
to be selected
deep in thought
their voice projected
inform the world
being reflective
“They’re here!”
we hear
the only message.
